This website is run by Roodt & Co Attorneys (registration number 2021/817824/21), 61 Thomas Edison Street, Menlo Park, Pretoria 0081. We are the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

2. What personal information we collect

We collect personal information in these ways:

• Through our contact form: your name, email address and phone number, and the message you choose to write.
• When you email or phone us: the details you give us and the contents of your message.
• Automatically, when you visit this website: information about your visit, such as the pages you view, your device and browser, your approximate location and how you reached the website. This is collected through cookies, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.

3. Why we use it

• To respond to your enquiry or request for a consultation.
• To provide legal services if you instruct us. Information you give us as a client is handled in line with our professional duties of confidentiality.
• To keep this website secure and to protect the contact form from spam.
• To understand how this website is used and to improve it.
• To meet our legal and professional obligations.

We only use personal information for the purpose it was collected for, or a purpose closely related to it.

4. Is giving us your information compulsory?

No. Using the contact form is voluntary. The name, email and phone fields must be completed before the form can be sent, because we need them to reply to you. If you prefer not to use the form, you can email or phone us instead.

5. What happens when you use the contact form

The details you submit are delivered to us by email. An automatic confirmation that we received your message is sent to the email address you entered, together with a copy of your message. Form details may also be saved in a Google spreadsheet that we use to manage enquiries.

6. Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some help the website work. Others help us understand how visitors find and use it, such as which page or campaign brought you here. These are set through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.

You can delete cookies or block them in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website works.

7. Who we share it with

We use service providers to run this website:

• Duda, the platform that builds and hosts this website and delivers contact form submissions.
• Google, for Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, reCAPTCHA (spam protection on the contact form) and, where used, Google Sheets.
• Mapbox, which provides the map on our contact section.

We may also share personal information where the law requires us to, or to protect our legal rights. We do not sell personal information.

8. Information sent outside South Africa

Some of these service providers store or process information in other countries. Where this happens, we rely on the rules in POPIA for transfers outside South Africa. These include the provider being bound by law, rules or an agreement that gives a similar level of protection, or you having consented.

9. How long we keep it and how we protect it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law or our professional record-keeping obligations require.

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access. No website or email is completely secure, so please keep this in mind when deciding what to send us.

10. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to:

• confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you access to it;
• correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully;
• stop processing your personal information in certain circumstances; and
• stop relying on your consent, where we have asked for it.
